DON'T LET THE FIRE GO OUT

written by: Sarita Montiel

''Don't let the fire go out'', she said
I guess I took it literally
One rainy December morning
''Don't let the fire go out'', she said
Murmuring 'Mhm' through sleep,
One of many things I need to forgive myself
''Don't let the fire go out''
Always so caring and selfless
''Don't let the fire go out''
I tell to myself as I crawl out of depression every single day
''Don't let the fire go out''
I remind myself everyday
As I face the indifference in everything
''Don't let the fire go out''
As night is young and so am I
''Don't let the fire go out''
As the fire that used to rest in her
Is now a part of my heart
''Don't let the fire go out''
As if somehow she knew what to say
To regain me strength day by day
