Four Days

written by: Maggie Chatterton

The lights shine bright
And this pain is so raw...
I lingered for far too long.
Four days of struggles...
Four days of hope...
Four days of hopeless dreaming...
I fought for you all.
I hate that I must depart
So soon without truly meeting you.
With lights so bright
And the wind so cool,
I give you a kiss,
A hug
And let myself cry for you.
Forgive me for not staying long,
But we cannot choose
How much time we are given.
Four days...
Four days...
It's not enough.
It will never be enough,
But know that I will always
Love you.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
This poem was written for a friend of mine who lost her daughter four days after her birth.
