Moral Amnesia

written by: TM Arko

We are all
Suffering
From moral amnesia
It seems
No one
Is immune
The streets are flooded
With
Kool-Aid
Every one
Is
Drowning in it
The Kool-Aid
Becomes
A river of blood
The hands and feet
Of civilization are torn
A spear
Of social media
Pierces her side
Trenches of division
Being dug
By malevolent tongues
Laughing at the old
Killing the young
Bereft of dignity
Blinded humanity
Using words to mutilate
Turning reason
Into hate
Differing opinions
Are
Inextricable
Discussions become
Deplorable
We use words
Just to
Exasperate
With wicked
Contrivance
Fathomless
We push
Towards
The end
Love is the reason
Voices cry
Among the wilderness
Who has ears
Who can hear
The lesson
That is
No longer learned

I live in the Pacific Northwest. A small community with farms and antique shops. Lots of rivers and lakes and these are some of the themes I like. I am a technical writer by trade so poetry offers me an escape from the more mundane industrial articles I work on day to day. I love music and am a classic rock fanatic. Love good books and stories too.
