Never Truly Mine

Remembering the time
When you were once mine
The look of love etched upon your face
Waiting in anticipation for our next embrace
The joy and laughter we once had
Why has it all turned out so bad?

It was only a matter of time
Because you were never, truly, mine.

Mistrust, jealousy, paranoia, and control
It is an ugly place deep down in your soul
Our past, our present, our future behold
The destructive emotion, cold and alone
The joy and laughter we once had
Why did it all turn out so bad?

It was only a matter of time
Because you were never, actually, mine.

The tears cannot heal the pain in my heart
It is vacant and lost now we are apart
The choice is simple and very clear
No life of drama, destruction and tears
The joy and laughter we once had
Why, why, why, is it all so bad?

It was only a matter of time
Because you were never, really, mine.

We must move forward with hope
To a life without me and also you
Finding that inner strength to cope
I sincerely hope that you do, too.
The joy and laughter we once had
No more tears or room to be sad.

It was only a matter of time
Because you were never, truly, mine.
