On the cadaverous hand
the inarticulate armbands
with the Star of David said:

here goes the Other.

The pronounced one in the crowd

those who protect me –
let me keep
my dignity

but he wondered
whether life
is good –
not worse than death?

Na wynędzniałej ręce
nieme opaski
z Gwiazdą Dawida mówiły:

idzie Inny.

Ten wyrazisty w tłumie

ci, co mnie chronicie –
pozwólcie zachować
moją godność

ale zastanawiał się
czy życie
jest dobrem –
nie gorszym od śmierci?
