Soul-searching can be so inconvenient.
Gone are the days you could plead the ignorance of innocence. When familiar whiffs of dirt and mildew almost masked the unmistakable iron and death. When age was measured by meters away and truth was obscured by the lenses of your scope.
Now it preys on you in your nightmares- an eagle in relentless pursuit of your meerkat personality. You remain forever alert, you bark, you show your teeth, you use your claws...
But, you know the best method is that which you were taught years ago.
The trick is not to let them see you.
