Prana

written by: Kara Jackman

Like a frustrated bud unable to bloom,
I find myself inside myself.

I want to blossom,
Yearn to stretch my delicate petals to the sun,
But the sun does not shine,
Nor does the water satiate my needs.

I must fight alone, unassisted,
Like a cactus
Surviving,
Squeaking out my existence
On what little prana I have stored within.

Her work has appeared in a number of regional, Massachusetts newspapers, non-profit newsletters, and local sports magazines.
