Rana Plaza Collapse

(Her Version of a Happy Day)

A beautiful seam at lightning speeds,
Making beautiful things,
Is the beauty that brings the meals her family needs.
The sewing thunder can be lost, under
Her imagined other life.
Inside her head, she sleeps
Inside a bed of satin sheets
While her expert hands
Sew another beautiful seam.
She's seen children from another world
Who wear the clothes she sews
They smile, in magazines, wearing
Her jeans.  Her dream, to see herself
As a child in magazines,
While her expert hands
Sew another beautiful seam.
Life for her, this thunderous blur,
Of sewing machines, is about to end.
To those afar who wear her clothes,
A message to send, in rends and screams
She'll sew no more,
Beautiful seams.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

On 24th April 2013 the Bangladesh commercial building Rana Plaza collapsed killing 1135 people.  I imagine there will have been children with dreams of a future amongst the victims.

That's me at the front of the photo. I'm an atheist, socialist, humanist, poet and soon to be novelist. From here to there and a lot of shit in the middle. That's life.
