Seeds of Contentment

As twilight creeps across the sky,
I pause and reminisce
Recounting all my blessings,
despite life’s vast abyss

While silently recalling thoughts
Such as the rose in bloom…
like a gift from above
Come the gentle arms of memory,

to encircle those I love
Be it parent, child, spouse, a friend,
the joy good neighbors bring
Throughout the year I’m grateful,

for a multitude of things
The beauty of the butterflies,
sweet fragrance of the flowers
The bounty of the garden

I have tilled for countless hours
There’s something therapeutic,
In time spent with mother earth
One cannot help reflecting

On the measure of one’s worth
Knowing this is nature’s legacy
to me, and to all men
I’ll look forward to tomorrow

 when twilight comes again
