- Where, do you hail from?
I’m from a small town in the State of New Hampshire, Hampton. It’s a town right on the Atlantic Ocean. New Hampshire only has about a 10 mile coastline and I always thought of myself as very fortunate to live right on the ocean. I miss it very much as I now reside on the plains of Oklahoma.
- What is the greatest thing about the place you call home?
I truly believe the greatest thing about living here in Oklahoma is the history of this State. The many people of differing Native American tribes and such a diversity of cultures here. It’s a state of many out-of-the-way places, full of nature and solitude. Old farms and towns, most that have seen their ‘good times’ now gone when the oil boom slowed many years ago.
- What turns you on creatively?
I have such a wide range of genres that I write about, it’s hard to figure out the real ‘turn on’. I have a true love of the horror, paranormal, weird and wonderfully odd genre. My first book, “The Cellaring” is a collection of 80 poems of that subject. I believe my love of Edgar Allan Poe and all his work has always had a special place in my mind and heart, and it appears my “muse” finds it a marvelous ‘turn on’. My other ‘turn on’ would be writing about Nature. I spent many days and nights on waters and in the woods with my Uncle in New Hampshire. Hiking, hunting, fishing, and time on the Ocean. He was a lobster fisherman and I began helping him on the boat at the age of 8. I would help pull the traps, bait them, unload and clean the boat. My third poetry collection, due out in the next few months, is dedicated to his memory.
- What is your favorite word, and can you use it in a poetic sentence?
Yes, I think so. One of my favorite words I use in writing many poems is “breath”. I use the word in many different poems and short stories. This is the last four lines from one of my poems, “Penny’s Last Quarter”. The final quatrain reads:
“Ply demons with poison candy
Angel’s breath just black vapor.
Bravely move to the grand altar
gasp and choke upon the wafer.”
- What is your pet peeve?
One of my pet peeves is getting a rejection ‘note’ from a publisher which reads, “Sorry but your work is not a fit for this issue”….especially when I go to that publishers site well prior to the submission call, read much of the work published over months and months, then after receiving the rejection, I go to the publication and find work of a similar genre, style and know that mine could “fit” just fine…..I know accepting and publishing poetry is a subjective job and so many different things go into an acceptance. But, I still despise the words Not a good Fit”…. Hahaha
- What defines Ken Allan Dronsfield?
So many different things truly define Ken Allan Dronsfield, foremost, I’m an Ordained Minister of the Universal Life Church, I’m also a member of the Knights Templar. I’m a poet by way of spending many years driving all around the United States and Canada as a long-haul truck driver seeing so many small towns, cities, people and woodlands. I’ve spent time in a Wall Tower at a State Prison for some years. I also spent almost ten years in the USAF on active duty during the end of the Vietnam War. Suffice to say, in my 64 years on this planet, I’ve done many things, worked many different jobs, met so many absolutely wonderful and not so nice people as well. I write about what I’ve seen, done, felt etc. As I now slow down in the Autumn of my life, I find writing poetry, short stories, fables, my friends and faith completely engulf my heart and soul.
