Spring Welcome

Spring Welcome

Sweet sunrise superbly slips
from behind snow dressed peaks,
spinning sunny shades, slavering amber syrup.
Rust to russet,
russet to lemon-yellow, then…
this spellbound Saffron Queen
shoots sulphur and catapults copper beams.

Brash breeze yawns through Candy Tuft moss,
seeds ride on flimsy air, like a blessing
over the rumbling river,
where an army of cotton clouds throw images,
little by little, changing as a picture book turns its pages.
Last sheet, simply grey,
dousing a thousand blinking stars.

Cherry tree wakes from slumber,
enfolds her face in fine pink linen,
a rush of flushed buds
trickle her buff-brown bark.

Scallopy leaves of sweet fern,
scented with musk,
wrapped in shy-white mists…
so white, almost silver,
overlap and neatly blend,
forming negatives in sepia.

Mother Nature manicures a pupa,
awaiting its master’s call…
Caterpillar to Butterfly,
wings of rare yellow,
sprinkled sienna dots.
Mesmerised by perfumed Primroses,
she hovers and swirls
above purple blooms, landing gracefully
as a glint of light supported by a sponge of wind.
Feasted on stamen flames she flip-flaps away,
leaving a trail of saffron strobes fleeting in her wake.

As dawn breaks coy cumuli whisper
in awe of beauty,
then slip into dark suits
releasing shredded, sieved rain.
Shrinking voices of Siskin’s echo this entrance of Lady Spring…
A magical Solstice where golden memories stand still.
The Lake’s window opens,
becoming one with the infinity of the burgundy sky,
reflecting on its own reflection.
