The Tunes of Life

written by: Hemmingplay

All those years ago
And I remember the first time,
In the moonlight,
When you stood before me
Shy, uncertain, serene,
While I tried to start breathing,
Soaking in the sight of you
With your gown fallen, body free.

All these years, as you leaned in
Asking me to find the music,
To clumsily compose songs of our life,
Teaching me how it should go,
With you as the instrument upon which
Our song would be played.

OCTOBER 2016 AUTHOR OF THE MONTH at Spillwords.com
“Hemmingplay,” is the pen name of the youngest son of a teacher and a nurse who grew up on a family farm in western Ohio. He has had a few disreputable occupations, including newspaper reporter and editor, and public relations flak, but is trying to make amends for his sins now by writing poetry and fiction.
His desire to write in these genres never really went away. When his children were safely off making their own mistakes, he turned on the computer one day, stared at the screen for a long time, and began again.
He has published three books so far: "Mermaid Sisters: First Dive", a children's book on iTunes/iBook; "I Came From A Place of Fireflies" published as a paperback and Kindle on Amazon; and a new book of poetry, "Snowflakes & Ashes: Meditations on the Temporary" (Gatekeeper Press) on Amazon, Barnes&Noble, iBooks, Ingram and Baker & Taylor, and a few others.
