Vanilla Sky

under a darkening vanilla sky
we saw a summer storm arriving
enjoying the thick sweet scent of rain
while resting my head on your lap
the fine hairs on my arms began rising
on high alert due to all the electricity
building in the air around us
“Honey look!” i said showing you,
“You know what this means.”
“It’s going to be a big one.”
you said and i agreed
as big wet cool drops fell down
soothing my too warm skin
once back in your red Mazda
watching the lightning show
i loved how you didn’t mind
being completely drenched
feeling as invigorated as me
as storms have a magical way
of clearing out the hard rubbish
leaving in its wake a new day
cleaned to start afresh in
from here on end honey
beneath each vanilla sky
i want to begin everything
with you by my side
