A Burning of Winter’s Cruel Song

love and warmth
familial and platonic
to fill the heart and soul
over the brim
as outside the snow
falls beneath fading sunlight and glistening
moonlight,
ornaments and lights glittering;
gifts laid beneath the tree—
the best gift
being present
for our loved ones and celebrating them
in trinkets and shows of affection,
a warmth that burns away the cold silence
of winter and all his reflective death.
