A Darkness

You described a darkness to me
A vast, vast darkness,
You couldn’t,
What is it
What is it
What is it
Your voice echoes in the darkness
To that light you see ahead,
A great empty space,
What’s in there
What’s in there
What’s in there
It doesn’t answer your call
And yet it is still there for you,
I don’t see it,
Where do I look
Where do I look
Where do I look
I ask you as you stammer
You can’t think of the words
They fail you,
I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know
You say to me ever looking
You’re still looking in that darkness
There’s nothing there,
Nothing there
Nothing there
Nothing there
But then where am I looking
I cannot see this darkness that you see
What could it be,
It is me
It is me
It is me
What does this mean for me
When you can see such somethings in it
Am I something or
Am I nothing
Am I nothing
Am I nothing

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

This poem was inspired by a conversation I had with a professor, whom I am very fond of.
