A Distant World

A Distant World

written by: Shih-Fang Wang

When the clock strikes one after midnight
he still wanders the empty streets
passing long stretches of closed shops
streetlights illuminate his way
heavenly stars watch over him

Aimlessly he strolls along
not knowing
where his destination lies
not worrying about going astray

No fear of leaving his home
no tear for losing his family
the world has become so distant to him
or perhaps he has distanced the world

As the hours pass
the anxiety of his family deepens
they run in every direction
searching for him—
who left his memory behind
