A Hopeful Beginning

A Hopeful Beginning

written by: Ken Gosse

Hopefully, this might become a sonnet,
though mockery of form lambasts the norm.
A robot called a rose, which I’d oppose,
might be what is stinging in your bonnet.

Hopefully, that thing whose feathers tickle
won’t choke my muses’ words, whose singsong birds
with tangled metric beat and two left feet
dance while scything-up the Reaper’s sickle.

Hopefully, this word once more repeated,
won’t be there as an air in closing lines
to beat or not to beat a rhythm sweet,
even if misread once it’s completed.

A hopeless denoument now brings a sigh—
a final breath exhaling its good-bye.
