A Piece of Cake

‘Tea?’ he offered his guest.
‘Oh, and some of this German cake?’
‘Stöllen?’ ventured his guest, slightly mispronouncing it.
‘Certainly not,’ came the nettled reply, ‘I bought it this morning.’
‘Oh, sorry,’ was the rather embarrassed rejoinder, ‘what I meant is, that’s the name of the cake.’
Drinking their tea, they reminisced about their previous lives together.
On the way out, the guest admired the rather sleek sports car on the drive.
‘That’s a super looking car; rare too, I think. Must have cost you a packet.’
‘Not at all,’ was the dry response, ‘stöllen!’
