A Weary Sun
written by: Lorna Rhee
I sit beneath a blowing cherry
While petals dress me in softness
I don’t dare move
For once I feel touched by something
That graced me
Expecting nothing in return
You sit across town in your car
Focused on everything
Working with precision
And racing thoughts
I’d hope you’d find your way
Through traffic stops
And the relentless heat
To sit beneath the willow tree
That overlooked this very park
Maybe if I stayed on my side
And you stayed on yours
You’d feel like looking over your shoulder
A few times without flinching
Or coming undone
Instead of clenching gentle fingers
Sweating to see
If there was something that would hurt
Please just sit there watching
Reading me like tiny, pointed dots
Raised on paper
Full of love
Maybe then you’d sigh
And realize
I’m just resting
Underneath a weary sun
Hoping your mind
Is held with the calmest thoughts
You wish had been said
But have never heard
