Absolution

Absolution

written by: Dickson Shreffler

The night was slow dreamless
Faces floated by nameless

Places seemed unrecognizable
But I’d been to them all

Each street lamp made me labor for breath and step

I thought about waking…
escaping entrapment..

But what deed or thought
had I done or imagined to bring me in this state to a place seemingly inescapable

Past failures…
Past transgressions…

I would beg for forgiveness
If that was all that was needed

Maybe a memory scavenger hunt
A list of events and hurt that
I need to reconcile and forget

But whatever this place was it seemed to want more of something that I was unable to give
