Between Fog and Sparks

Between Fog and Sparks

written by: Devika Viswanath

Some days, “hurray— I have got this.”
“Perhaps it will never work,” echoes—
Sooner or later.

A soul, mummified in endless dreams,
Yells to be heard,
Yet remains muted.

At two in the afternoon, my thoughts carry the weight of fog;
By five, they burst into sparks.

Tears gather without reason.
Before they fall, a smile surfaces—
Maybe a reassurance,
Or camouflage.

Words echo through the room,
Until silence holds the seat.
Being present, but unseen—
What a beautiful paradox to be human.

Longing to be understood, yet standing accused;
Surrounded by many, yet feeling painfully alone.
Perhaps this is what life holds—

The storm moves. The stillness stays.
Shaped by both, we roll on—
Still becoming.
