Between Us

Between Us

written by: Louise Pocock

You sit down
beside me,
as I look out the window
imagining Prosecco
and a warm hand in mine.

I’m not inclined to talk,
but your eyes are blue
and lined.

AI is the death of civilisation,
we say,
the end of creativity.

Your wife flooded the kitchen
this morning.
A plug in the sink, the tap running.
Would it cost that much to fix?

Education is key,
we say,
even in this AI first world.

Your eyes are blue.
You could borrow my fan.

In the late afternoon,
our winged shadow arrives.
