Birds & Angels

boxes of dust
beneath the bed
somehow inherent
with meaning
yellowed pages
of smog checks
and tire changes
so dearly undeparted
something in the holding
and the keeping comforts us
in some way
documents and dossiers
of semblance disordered
something cracked in the way we love
something loved in the ways we crack
whatever it is
we’re positive
we’ll need it again
someday.
