California Poppies

California Poppies

written by: Fotoula Reynolds

She fell to her knees
Opened her wings
Forgiveness flourished
The spell was broken

The notion of truth
Rattled her wounded
Spirit and exposed a
Lifetime of vulnerability
Where sounds of shame
Beat in her sternum
Begging for her aching
Words to stop crying
And releasing the
Disguise of loneliness

In the garden of life
Californian poppies
Danced like eggs in
The powder-blue sky
It is there she walked
Into the pages of her
Story’s evergreen world
To scream a love so true
