Call of the Void

Call of the Void

written by: Joseph Mannino

Dark and cold
Wet and deep
Obsessive thinking
Instead of sleep

Falling slowly
Wracked with guilt
Paper temples
So poorly built

Disenchanted
Scarcely there
Impending sadness
Nerves laid bare

Sputtering light
A will worn thin
The failed revolt
Comes crashing in

Desperate bells are tolling
The keening will not abate
Assistance from above
May come a moment too late

Standing at the edge
The vastness loudly calls
Feeding the oblivion
As sanity silently falls

Quick turn
Face the strange
Take the exit
Make a change

Precipice
Almost there
One last push
Nothing’s fair

One last gasp
Dream destroyed
Heed the call
Of the void
