Conflict

Conflict

written by: Martha Smith

I can remember the first record I ever played,
The feeling of lowering the needle down onto this simple piece of plastic:
Euphoria washing over me, seeing the endless spinning disc somehow make a heavenly sound

I did not notice the imperfections:
It was perfect.
As time went on,
I could hear the static and dust
The reluctance to play that heavenly melody.
Conflict.

The diamond stylus no longer worked with the grooves of the record
Conflict.
Never-ending conflict
Wearing each other down,
Until there is nothing but plastic and diamond from the ground:
That once heavenly sound became melancholy.

I no longer wanted to listen.
I find love very similar- simple yet complex.
Conflict.
