Ecdysis

Ecdysis

written by: Bruce Morton

You would think she would be
Tempted to do her hang ups
In the closet, exhibit all of her
Silky selves shed and forgotten.
But no, there they lie on the floor,
Discarded casings, transparent.
So, I ask myself, do I collect them
Or leave them be? Pick them up,
Place on a hanger, guess proper
Place–perhaps over faux snakeskin
Cowgirl boots? I know that wherever
I put them it will be wrong. Best to wait
For the next shedding. She will never
Be comfortable in her own skin.
