For Sale
written by: Simon Drake
I miss looking at you.
I miss watching your smile rise,
lighting up my world
from dawn until eternity sets
and everything sleeps forever.
I miss your eyes and the way you’d look at me,
your eyes like two lovebirds singing so beautifully,
a synchronised harmony.
My eyes applauded in awe;
there was no need to sit.
Gleefully, I stood giving standing ovations.
I miss your giggle,
the sound and how it left your beautiful lips.
I miss the happiness I got high on.
You, you were my happiness.
Whenever I spent time with you, it was heaven.
I was in heaven; heaven was my home
every time I was with you.
God, I miss being in your arms.
I miss you being in mine.
It’s the little things,
the idiosyncrasies.
I miss your head on my chest.
I miss the way our hands used to try and find one another
as we walked side by side.
I miss your hands talking to mine,
reassuring me that everything was going to be okay.
Being held and loved
without the need to speak
however limited the vocabulary
that was our language of love.
I can’t finish this.
I can’t speak or write the finality.
Every day since, you have been there,
my shadow,
a shadow that disappears every time I turn to greet you.
No sunrises, no warmth,
no love, just an emptiness
that all the galaxies in existence couldn’t fill.
I am a shell of what I once was,
empty.
My heart has a “For Sale” sign outside.
The building has been vacant
since the 2nd of September.
