Forgotten

Forgotten

written by: Rayna More

The earth beneath my cold, hardened feet,
bones beneath these lie.
Cracked bones of those who once lived, but now rot,
who once loved, and laughed, and cried.

Withered roots of hundred-year-old trees, curling around
their decaying ribs.
Maggots no longer preying on their breaking-down skin,
for no longer are they belonging to such burden.

Blocked off from the icy breeze,
beneath the hardened toes of my feet.
The corpses lie,
fading.

Once known, now lost.
Those who mattered, wasting away.
Forgotten,
as if they never existed.
