Funeral Homes and the Smell of Plastic

Funeral Homes and the Smell of Plastic

written by: Bus Stop Girl

Pink lipstick
Hastily applied
To a
Trembling lip
Your body is the
Most perfect
— Thing
That I have ever seen

Funeral homes
And the
Smell of plastic
Lingering
On black rubbish bags;
Treasured trash
And memory hoarding

Tattooed hands and
— Bruised feet
Are all you’ve ever been

A patient mother and a
Ceremonial tie
Overdue bill delivered
To a room with no heat

Everything you touched
Has an aftertaste
That I can’t seem
To wash out
The essence of your being
Is cemented in my mouth

Minted toothpaste
Bought in
Bulk
Watching me from
The shelf

A wrist support and
Skinny jeans
Heaven waits
For no
— Body
An angry father and a
Deteriorating high
Beautiful woman
To a man that will cheat

Every person you have been
Introduces themselves
To me
Sometimes I am suffocating
On a
Train track
Image of a
Life projected
On a
Distant tree

Sometimes I am walking
Down a shaded
Path
Ahead,
A thousand
Miles
Wait for me.
