Honey Songs

Honey Songs

written by: Lillian Elise

I like the way the earth feels around the evening
I like when the cars on the road are less and the sun hangs low,
lazily,
in the sky.
when the air smells faintly of fresh cut grass
and the golden light,
like ribbon
drenches and drapes over the trees and pools on the pavement
I like songs that sound like honey
sweet longing voices that intertwine with
rich, earthy
melodies
I like to sit outside and listen to the honey songs and let my heartbeat settle with the earth
I like open fields with dragging, sloped hills and plants that stretch and brush the sky
I like to think that God paints and creates sun-soaked evenings like these
with whispers of Him in the breeze
with a gentle hope that I will sit in them and think of Him
