Honorific

Honorific

written by: Kat Welch

We are hard-bound, bloodied by sleepy dogma
Some turn to stone as the eardrums burst
But branded bold by the teeth of nature
We’ll carve the animals in our eyes

Our names bear the rose of our choosing
We’ve always been free to rearrange our skin
We’ll tend to the bruise of our mothers
While we bow to the weight of a single exhale
