Hope In The Darkness
written by: George Gad Economou
trapped in an abysmal hole,
no ladder or a way up.
the sun fails to reach the bottom,
eternal darkness and perfect silence.
only cruel thoughts bounce on the walls
repeating themselves ad infinitum.
once in a while a rope’s lowered;
a sliver of hope. it’s always cut
before the surface can be reached, sending me
tumbling down to the bottom.
the pain subsides, eventually.
a fresh rope has dropped and the climbing
begins anew. the false hope that this will be
the rope that won’t break
pushes me upward.
