Kibbles

Kibbles

written by: Grant Guy

I was talking to my dog last week
I was telling I believed my literary career has come to an end
I told him he would have a better chance to get published then me

He said to me
     That’s not true

Do you want to make a bet
I said

      100 Kibbles
It answered

The next Monday we submitted our poems
My dog wrote

Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark
Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark
Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark
Bark Bark Bark Bark
Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark

Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark
Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark
Bark Bark Bark Bark
Bark

I wrote

Whitman wrote a short poem from three
Unrelated snippets of unfinished poems
So why the hell can’t I

Creeping To War
Just Because,

Creeping to war is easier
Than creeping out of love

Just because Mount Everest is there does not mean
You have to creep to war

Three weeks later we got our responses
His poem will be published in October
In print even

I received

Thank you for sending us “Creeping”. We appreciate the chance to read your work. Unfortunately, the pieces are not for us. Thanks again. Best of luck with this.

     Pay up
I said

He said
     Eat my Kibbles

And he dumped on the carpet
