Kitchen Throne

Kitchen Throne

written by: Michael Ball

No law says the abuela must teach her craft
though we expect such grace.

Instead each kitchen has a queen
Her hand to their mouths.
Female offspring simply obey.

With luck and looking, they may clean,
and they may crank the meat grinder.

Mother and gran keep their skills close
tucked into their aprons
The kitchen throne is narrow
and has space for but one butt.
