Leave Me Broken

Leave Me Broken

written by: Sheri M. Stewart

Sifting through
broken pieces of myself,
wondering how, but knowing
I am somehow still all right.

Yes I am broken,
lying scattered, shattered
but even broken I am still here.
I don’t need you to fix me.

My pieces are still beautiful.
Stop playing the artist.
My scraps are not your palette
to create your own mosaic.

I was crooked and imperfect
so the blows came,
seeking to eliminate
what others found distasteful.

Let me feel my pain.
I will not be sorry.
My agony is a reminder.
I am still alive.

Do not blame me
when your fingers bleed,
seeking to hide the fractures
that are my truth.

Let me be fragmented,
I am still me.
I want every piece of myself.
Just take me as I am or walk away.
