Longing

Longing

written by: Shoshana Vegh

She measures the duration of longing
Pulls the threads from the ball of wool
They always intertwine
It is always complicated
This is a knot that has no beginning
She can pull the threads
Until they break
That is the nature of longing
They can use the compound
They can no longer find both ends
This is a blunder
She tells herself
And he asks
Are you okay with me?

And she collapses again
The ends seem to have unraveled
It is a long sweater
That looks like a scarf
He strangles her
And when her hands come out of the sleeves
She also wants her head to come out
And most of all she wants
That this knot that looks a little loose
To be the strongest
And he asks
Are you okay with me?

Where will she go
There is no one like him
To flood her
With tears
