you were looking for yourself
in the midst of a crowd
the unheard voice
the love uncrowned

you were trying to find
in the waters, of rivers
the unpainted glove
pinned to no hand

when you were searching
there was this aching

rose, blue, green, that did not yet exist
over time, a sign, a dream
symbol of rhyme, a poem of skin
ever shining, a fest of a threne
