Memory Of A Reverie

Memory Of A Reverie

A memory recurred to me,
it was from my younger self:
Of bright blue August sky
a baseball diamond and
white stands surrounded by
eye-watering emerald grass.

Crack of wooden bat on ball
jubilant cheers drifting on
late golden afternoon sunshine
such that my uncle might’ve
loved – like radio and laughter.

Humid Illinois lies just beyond
Walnut Drive (oh no, it doesn’t);
this sudden welcome memory
of a daydream reverie (not
a true memory)…

from my wistful younger self.
