Morning Medicine

Morning Medicine

written by: Troy DeFrates

Blue morning kisses like a cookie bake
clouds in the sky
waiting for the sun to bloom
whispering a dimly lit moon.
Wait for the warmth to simply overtake
grey goes away
wishing for the heat too soon
fading into the morning’s tune.
The sun begins to take a look at you
turning your eyes
leaving them burnt all marooned
left with the ghost we all presume.
The sunshine caresses the sweet wet dew
you fill my eyes
touch the way I look at you
feeling the way I speak with you.
Not knowing if I know this is the way
trace my soft breath
two worlds for the one who observes
paper cuts separate the words.
A callous lies rough where you once believed
my faith, your lies
feel how the words surround me
a box for the world to see me.
The final eclipse slowly takes its shape
no more, I tried
watch my shadow walk away
you left me broken and dismayed.
With my last sight wishing you a farewell
tears left all dry
with no will left for the fight
medicine in the morning light.
