Sailing Away with Dolly

Sailing Away with Dolly

written by: Anne Gruner

She sailed away so suddenly,
an island in the stream,
now singing for eternity,
the Country Music Queen.

She rose from nearly nothing
in the Smoky Mountain high.
Her poverty was crushing
yet her being touched the sky.

She gave away her millions
wherever her heart would lead,
and unlike politicians,
she wouldn’t make them plead.

We’ve always loved you, Dolly
and will miss you so so much.
The world’s a lot less jolly
without your golden touch.
