- Where, do you hail from?
Hello, my name is Mrs. Colleen M. Tice. I am from New York State. As a child I lived in Brooklyn and Staten Island, NY with my family until my mother died. Afterwards my father moved us to Elmira, NY. I met my husband, Charles in New Berlin, NY when I was a teenager. Later we married and have lived in Elmira with our children and grandchildren for the last 25 years.
- What is the greatest thing about the place you call home?
Several things are great about my home. Besides the obvious of my children, grandchildren, and husband it would be the famous people who have graced our town. Author, Mark Twain summered here until his death and is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Ernie Davis grew up here in Elmira and graduated from my high school, Elmira Free Academy. We also have the one of the first women’s college in the United States, Elmira College which was founded in 1855. I am a proud alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Human Services. Elmira also has Eldridge Park, it a beautiful amusement park with a walking trail, 1890’s Looff Carousel and soccer fields. Elmira is a small beautiful gem inside the Upstate countryside.
- What turns you on creatively?
There a few things that turns my creative flow on. It is summertime, the beauty of a sunrise or a full moon. Music can also influence my writing along with how my mood is can interfere with my creativity.
- What is your favorite word, and can you use it in a poetic sentence?
I am not sure if I have a favorite word, per say. I would say my catch phrase is “Beauty rises from the ashes.”
- What is your pet peeve?
A grammar know-it-all. Someone who must be right all the time, who does not want to help others but to be a negative energy.
- What defines Colleen M. Tice?
This is a tough question to answer if I am to be honest. I would say a lot of things define me. I am a survivor, an empath, a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, student, and friend. What does all that mean? It means I am still learning who I am, as I think we all are. I have a huge heart, that gets broken a lot. I am also a strong-willed individual who is determined to full-fill my dreams and goals. I have been through a lot of painful “flames” in my lifetime to earn my survival and empathic skills to educate, help, and entertain others.
