Troy DeFrates

  1. Where, do you hail from?

I was raised as a Marine Corps brat until I got into High School. Last count, I have moved 23 times in my life. This has given me some different perspectives than an average person might have on seeing their surroundings.

  1. What is the greatest thing about the place you call home?

My friends from school. They are dear to me. With less than fifty in our graduating class, we are like brothers and sisters. We know the character of each of us.

  1. What turns you on creatively?

Nature and solitude. Floating on a boat and laying there looking at the sky. I can lose my inhibitions to sing, with my voice and my words. No judgement, no eyes, just me and my Rottweiler Gillie.

  1. What is your favorite word, and can you use it in a poetic sentence?

Consequences, this is simply a powerful word.

“The decision was so soft, so innocuous and oh so innocent, yet the consequences of inaction proved to be fatal.”

  1. What is your pet peeve?

Lies. Lies of any type are unforgivable unless it is to get someone to a surprise party. Lies of omission are the most insidious, partial truths used to paint a picture of reality that is not true. Most often omission seems to be used to manipulate people.

  1. What defines Troy DeFrates?

I have an unquenchable thirst to learn. My curiosity drives me to incessantly seek knowledge. I challenge every new thought presented to me before I accept it, yet I do not cling to outdated facts. As humans, we uncover deeper meanings and truths as we build on the foundation of our reality.
