Suburban Tree Out Back

Suburban Tree Out Back

written by: C L Couch

I suppose by the end of the season
there was one
apple
maybe
two apples
like one fish two fish
only
joined by stem to branch

while
most of the fruit had fallen
to
the ground
uneatable
thanks to bees who ate them
well
and made good use of what they ate
I’m sure

and chomping on the bees
had
nightmarish quality
to contemplate

and so I didn’t think on that as much as
leave
the tree alone and then
the yard
