The Beating Muscle

The Beating Muscle

written by: Ms. Fish

It’s ok when the sandman sneaks into your bones
when your heart hurts enough
that you cast its mold in stone
the only substance strong enough
to keep the shards together
an impenetrable doppelgänger
to the beating muscle that breaks
cement doesn’t shatter
but every now and then
if you’re patient enough
life will grow through a sidewalk crack
