The Day I Die

The Day I Die

written by: sushmita ghoshal

i have spent my days (trying) to understand the undertones of my body’s split tones,
the sounds it does not let slither from
my being’s ragged edges.

one day, i will write about
everything i could not be,
everything i let go off because it did not
fit in the shape of my words
one day, i will stand on
every land that made me tremble,
every soil i didn’t let my roots breathe in.

i will stop (trying) to claim worlds and waters
i never had the maps to,
i will stop naming stars all the things I could not carry.
