The Enigmatic Night Sky

The Enigmatic Night Sky

written by: Brent Yergensen

We lay on the backyard trampoline in the darkness, we see it above
Stars’ flickering dance, their heav’nly wonders we love
Movement ’round us, its presence never to miss
Stars are permanent, in wonder we stare its abyss

Wondering about time and distance, humans stare and wonder
Never fully sure, how many stars already vanished asunder
But alive, they wait for us to watch, better than the couch and TV
And we ask when we stare, does the cosmos’ have place for me?

So existential questions, emerge in staring into the sky
So far, so distant, its monstrous size we ask why
But the galaxy so grand, and the universe unimaginable
In night’s dark on a trampoline, it pressing weight is felt while invisible
