The Great Way

The Great Way

written by: Francisco Bravo Cabrera

Mothers and fathers
pace to the sound in their headphones
push their tiny offspring
in squeaky buggies
ankle socks,
short pants,
strolling and eye piercing,
creatine digestion,
step counters,
time consuming
merchants of Temu
on the sunny side.
I ride the last few drags
from a faded Winston.
Corner dwellers.
No hopes
just knifing through
yesterday’s plans.
A flying empty pack of Gitanes
adds to the rubbish heap
in the rays from St. Malo’s
crispy sun.
The cracks are jagged teeth
To passing trainers, pumps
or fancy boots.
The puddles always shine with
last night’s bile.
An umbrella holds up
a centenarian.
