The Heart of Wisdom

The Heart of Wisdom

written by: Eliza Segiet

translated by: Dorota Stępińska

Dedicated to editor Kinga Młynarska

When one thing ended,
another started.
In the building of the former theatre
there are no more actors or props;
now you can enjoy your coffee on its stage.
Various collections of the world’s wisdom
are now where people used to watch
the magic of acting.
Now the treasures of literature fascinate visitors
who on the ex-theatre balconies
get lost in the written word, in the lives of book characters.
They create their own, extracted from the pages, world
with a self-imagined array of characters and emotions.
In the books of science, they find
what allows them to chase knowledge.
Enchanted in print, Ateneo Grand Splendid holds
the pride of the world,
the heart of wisdom,
the ocean of the knowledge horizons.
