The Scars That Follow the Night

The Scars That Follow the Night

written by: Saher Imran

When the world closes in on you,
And it’s hard to focus on breathing,
When all you are is tired,
And your heart aches like it’s infected with disease.

When there are parts of you hidden,
And you do not want them found,
When it’s you alone, with a bleeding wound,
Where do you go – who do you talk to?

I have long since left the world behind,
The one that does not care,
The one that always reminds,

Stop crying, toughen up,
You are not an exception to the problems you bear,
But they have not seen the wounds,
So ugly, so remorseful – the beating of heart, I can barely hear.

I have long ached to be found,
To be seen without all that glory,
In a world where I was never alone,
I was absolutely lonely.
